September 30^th is the National day for Truth and Reconciliation.  Reconciliation is about establishing and maintaining respectful relationships between Indigenous and Non-Indigenous peoples (Truth and Reconciliation Commission).  It is a transformative process that involves a discussion of rights, title, and jurisdiction.  This seminar is an introduction to Indigenous Reconciliation in Canada through the lens of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC).  The TRC Calls to Action are actionable policy recommendations meant to aid the healing process in two ways: acknowledging the full, horrifying history of the residential schools system, and creating systems to prevent these abuses from happening again.

The presentation is built on evidence-based innovations, best practices, and direction in First Nations education through the principles of reconciliation.  Case studies and innovative programs are used to explore how to close the gap in education, health, etc., through a reconciliation approach.  Our goal is to demonstrate how First Nations schools are applying traditional healing, land-based teaching, language and culture to nurture student identity, resilience, and wellness. Underlying these teachings is a goal of understanding how Good Ancestors and applying Seven Generations thinking is important to sustaining the process of reconciliation, dialogue, and engagement.
